SCIENTIFIC NAME: Draco volans

TYPE: Reptiles

DIET: Insectivore

SIZE: Up to 8.4 inches (female: including tail)


They are also known as flying dragons or gliding lizards. They belong to the Draco genus.

These lizards are capable of gliding flight. Their ribs and their connecting membrane may be extended to create wings. Their hind limbs are flattened and wing-like in cross-section. The neck serves as a horizontal stabilizer and is sometimes used in warning to others.

One lizard is considered to be only around 20 cm (7.9 in) in total length, including tail.

They glides as long as 60 m (200 ft) have been recorded, over which the animal loses only 10 m (33 ft) in height.
