Due to recent India-China border tensions, the Indian Government has banned 59 Chinese apps use in India.

According to the Ministry of Information Technology, there have been raging concerns on aspects relating to data security and safeguarding the privacy of 130 crore Indians.

 

On 29th June, the Indian government banned 59 Chinese apps including some of the most used apps in India like Tik Tok, CamScanner, UC Browser, Shein, Club Factory, Vigo Video etc. These Chinese apps had a large growing market in India, with a spike in installs from Google Play Store and App Store.

Due to high rise in anti-China sentiments of Indians, along with boycotting various Chinese products, they are looking for alternatives to replace these popular Chinese apps in the Indian market.

So, here we brought the list of 10 types of most popular Chinese apps in India out of which 9 are already banned by the government along with a list of replacement of these apps by some common and easily accessible apps. We also tried to include some Indian based apps to emphasis on ‘Vocal for Local’ and ‘Made in India’ programs.

 

TIK TOK, LIKEE, VMATE – TRILLER, FUNIMATE, ROPOSO, MITRON, DUBSMASH

On recent studies, it has been found out that Tik Tok is a Beijing-based app which worked for the Chinese Government to share user data and privacy information. Likee and Vmate are similar  Chinese apps which are also short- video sharing entertaining apps.

Triller (4.3★) and Funimate (4.3★) are some  American based entertainment platform which has significantly gained a lot of attention over the world.

Moreover, you can even switch to similar Indian apps like  Roposo (4.2★  ), Mitron ( 4.2★ )  and Dubsmash ( 4.2★).




XENDER, SHAREIT – FILES BY GOOGLE, JIOSWITCH

Xender and ShareIt are offline Chinese file transferring apps which can be alterned by  a similar accessible app-  Filesby Google ( 4.6★). Currently, this app is only available on Android and not in iOS.

However JioSwitch ( 4.6★), an Indian based app, also lets you share files with other devices offline. It can be installed on both iOS and Android.




CAMSCANNER – GOOGLE DRIVE, ADOBE SCAN

Chinese app CamScanner is a popular document scanning app developed by INTSIG, a Chinese company based in Shanghai.

Meanwhile, Google Drive (4.3★) is the most accessible app which has a scan option to scan your documents and upload them into your drive. Adobe Scan (4.6★) also offers better features to convert your printed documents into a PDF file.          




UC BROWSER, CM BROWSER – FIREFOX, GOOGLE CHROME, JIOBROWSER

 UC Browser is a Chinese web browser with over 50 crore downloads on the Google Play Store. CM Browser is another similar web browser developed by Cheetah Mobile, a Chinese Internet company. People using these apps are now looking forward for alternatives.

Mozilla Firefox ( 4.4★) is a free open source web browser which is best known for privacy of your data. Google Chrome ( 4.4★) is a familiar cross-platform web browser which is mostly by default in Androids.

 Apart from these, you can even try out the JioBrowser (4.5★) app for free, secure and fast browsing developed by Indian Mobile Internet company Jio. However, the app is currently not available for iOS users. 




BEAUTY PLUS, YOUCAM MAKEUP– PICS ART, CANDY CAMERA

Beauty plus and YouCam Makeup are makeup editing, virtual makeover, selfie camera apps. These apps are commonly found in Androids of female, and after the ban of these apps, people are searching for alternatives.

Pics Art (4.3★), Candy Camera ( 4.4★) are some photo apps that contains styling of photos, filters, stickers, frames, and various options. There are other various beauty apps in the market available free of cost.

 


DU RECORDER – SCREEN RECORDER-NO ADS

DU Recorder is a screen recorder for Android that records high quality clear screen videos. But this app was also listed in the 59 banned Chinese apps.

There are many alternatives to this screen recorder app but the most liable and featurable app is the Screen Recorder-NoAds app. It gives high resolution video with 4.3 ratings.                                                                         


CLUB FACTORY, SHEIN –AMAZON, MYNTRA, FLIPKART, AJIO

Speaking of fashion and stylish clothing, Shein is one of the leading apps almost worldwide. While Club Factory is a famous e-commerce store best known for cheap prices. Both these apps are created by Chinese companies and hence they are now banned in India.

Myntra (4.4★) is a dedicated fashion e-commerce store which is an Indian based company and can be considered as the best alternative. While AJIO (4.0★) is another Indian fashion website which focuses more on fusion and Indian wear.

Amazon (4.3★) is an American shopping website which is far more better than Club Factory. However, coming to India based website, Flipkart( 4.5★ ) is the most suitable for all kinds of shopping.

 



VIVA VIDEO – KINEMASTER

For editing videos, Viva Video has various tools and a range of features to create your own video montage on your Android device. But this app is said to be a spyware app  and so after it has been banned, people are moving towards other alternatives.

Kinemaster(4.4★) has similar video editing features to create incredible videos on your phone.





DU CLEANER, VIRUS CLEANER – FILES BY GOOGLE

DU Cleaner, Virus cleaner are speed booster, device cache cleaner and virus scanner apps which clean up all your junk files and malware and threats to keep your phone clean and fast.  But these apps are banned to safeguard interests of users.

Files by Google with a rating of 4.6 is a file management app that helps not only in file browsing and offline file sharing, but also acts as a storage cleanup.

                                                                     



ZOOM – GOOGLE MEET, SKYPE, MICROSOFT TEAM, WEBEX, JIOMEET

Zoom is a popular software based conference room founded by a Chinese immigrant. However, it has not been listed among the 59 Chinese apps to be banned by the Indian government, but this app can be removed and replaced by other alternative apps.

Google Meet (3.8★), Microsoft teams ( 4.4★) , WebEx (4.3★) are the apps which connects any meeting room easily and safely. You can even use Skype (4.3★) on your computer, mobile phone or tablet for video calling and conference meetings.

JioMeet (4.5★) is another multi-perform video conferencing app provided by Reliance Industries Ltd.

Due to huge and diverse population, Indians have always been targeted as the most popular and profitable customers by the Chinese application developers. It is expected that the recent ban on these apps will bring a huge loss in the market.

However, Indians are now looking for the best alternatives for these apps which are easily available and safeguards interests of users along with provision of security.
